AI for Advancing Health: Opportunities and Considerations to Improve Community and Population Health

Artificial intelligence is opening new frontiers in population health — from predicting community health risks to targeting interventions that close gaps in access and outcomes. When used responsibly, AI can help identify social drivers of health, optimize resource allocation and accelerate community-based strategies that address disparities in health outcomes.

This plenary session will explore the application of AI-driven tools and data insights to advance health at the community and systems-levels. The speakers will discuss promising innovations in areas such as chronic disease prevention, early intervention and access to care, while also sharing real-world examples of AI helping organizations better understand, predict and respond to patient and community health needs.

At the same time, the discussion will take a critical look at potential pitfalls: biased data sets that can lead to or reinforce disparities in health outcomes, lack of transparency in algorithms, privacy concerns and the risk of technological solutions outpacing community trust. The speakers will examine what it takes to design, implement and evaluate AI approaches that truly serve all populations.
